hello! i've booked the class chalet.
it's the cheapest we can get already! it's a weekend promotion so i booked it on the 7th dec instead. we've 4 free theme park tickets too. it's the Duplex room type (double storey) no probs right??? :)

Venue: Costa Sands Resort (Pasir Ris)
Date: 7th Dec 2007 (FRIDAY) to 9th Dec 2007 (SUNDAY) KEEP THOSE DAYS FREE! it's the last outing we're gonna have before the guys shave their heads! hahaha.

ah k anyway this year, the netballers are gonna go on a trip to hongkong. the trip costs 1000 bucks. so yup we're gonna do some fundraising thing.

hello!! it's 15 jan 2007. 12 days into school term.. quite happy to see everyone at school :) especially samuel and his hair. it's so samuel. but he just got his haircut today so the trademark hair's gone.

This is my idea for the class wordings on the shirt for the front. The '6' is kinda ugly though, any comments for improvements? we can also include 06 for our yr as well. (it's nice to knoe tt all of the characters, 2006 06S68, are curved) I hav the intention of puting this at the base of the shirt, the shoulder of the shirt (splash or straight rows), diagonally across the shirt from the bottom left base to the right middle torso area or even on the sleeve. For the sleeve, maybe we can use repetive of the above 3 characters to form lines from the shoulder to the sleeve? (3 lines belongs to Adidas, 3 horizontal lines belongs to Fila) We still can include tt '+68' at the other sleeve? other comments?

And why they know exactly what they're doing

When I was in college, I followed a simple strategy: Go where the boys are. Sure, that led me into many settings where inebriants flowed, but my reasoning was strictly practical. Men ruled the world, as anyone could see, so the trick was to do as they did. No girlie major like art history or French lit for me. I started in chemistry and then proceeded up the gender gradient to physics, finally achieving in Classical Mechanics the exalted status of only girl in the class.

But that was an era when the cool kids smoked Gauloises and argued about Kierkegaard and Trotsky. Today, as two recent reports have revealed, it's the girls who achieve and the boys who coast along on gut courses congenial to hangovers. Boys are less likely to go to college in the first place (only 45% of college students under 25 are male) and are less likely to graduate as well. If I tried to follow my original strategy now, I would probably end up with an M.A. in Madden, the football video game, and a postgraduate stay in rehab.

The trend has occasioned some predictions of a coming matriarchy in which high-achieving women will rule over a nation of slacker guys. We've all seen the movie, an endless loop culminating most recently in You, Me and Dupree. That little girls' T shirt slogan--GIRLS RULE, BOYS DROOL--is beginning to look less like a slur and more like an empirical observation.

But it may be that the boys still know what they're doing. Among other things that have changed since the '60s is the corporate culture, which once valued literacy, numeracy, high GPAs and the ability to construct a simple sentence. No doubt there are still workplaces where such achievements are valued, but when I set out as an undercover journalist seeking a white-collar corporate job for my book Bait and Switch, I was shocked to find the emphasis entirely on such elusive qualities as "personality," "attitude" and "likability." Play down the smarts, the career coaches and self-help books advised, cull the experience and exude a "positive attitude."

In a June article on corporate personality testing, the Washington Post reported on a woman who passed the skills test for a customer-care job but wasn't hired because she failed the personality test. Those tests, including the ubiquitous Myers-Briggs test, have no scientific credibility or predictive value, as Annie Murphy Paul showed in her 2004 book, Cult of Personality. You can have one Myers-Briggs personality on Tuesday and another when you retake the test on Thursday. Their chief function, as far as I could tell when I took them, was to weed out the introverts. When asked whether you'd rather be the life of the party or curl up with a book, the correct answer is always "Party!"

So the best preparation for that all-important personality test may well be a college career spent playing poker and doing tequila shots. An Atlanta woman I interviewed, a skilled website writer, was fired without explanation after a few weeks at a job. "I tried to fit in," she told me. "I went to lunch with the guys, but all they talked about was sports, which I know nothing about, and they all seemed to know each other from college." Poor thing, she had probably wasted her college years in the library.

The business world isn't totally hostile to higher education--an M.B.A. still counts for something. But as G.J. Meyer wrote in his classic 1995 book, Executive Blues: Down and Out in Corporate America, a higher degree in something other than business or law--or, worse, a stint of college teaching--can impart a deadly "academic stench" to one's résumé. And what are we to make of the growing corporate defiance of elementary grammar? At a job fair I attended, AT&T Wireless solicited sales reps with the question, if it was a question, "Are you ready to put your skills to work. Like the way you're a quick study. How you're good at finding solutions." Take that, you irritating, irrelevant English 101 professors!

Maybe we need a return to gender-segregated higher education, with the academic equivalent of Pinocchio's Pleasure Island for boys, where they can hone their "people skills" at keg parties. But we will need those high-achieving girls more than ever. Someone, after all, is going to have to figure out how to make an economy run by superannuated slacker boys competitive again in a world filled with Chinese and Indian brainiacs. I'd still major in physics if I were doing it again, just because there ought to be at least a few Americans, of whatever gender, who know something beyond the technology of beer bongs.

okay, now its my turn to update you guys on the sequel to the fac camp entry since mr wenjian is busy with his pw now and i must remind you guys of what all of you missed out after deciding to pang seh us for the athena camp! eh! very fun okay!

SECOND DAY:
guotong left in the early morning and i was left stranded on an island with 16 other guys in my group (68 girls, are u all feeling bad and regretful now??!!). we woke up and gathered for morning exercise at around 6 50 am. Then we had breakfast - beehoon,samosa and some sausage tasting thing. It was not bad okay! still got hot milo somemore. YUM YUM. Then we set off for raft building. But before we can build the raft, we had to participate in a series of activities to earn the materials for raft building. We were split into two groups. Eh..i forgot who won what but as you know..we played like 3 activities and the winning team will receive more of the material than the other..Then we built the rafts with whatever materials our group earned. The challenge after that was to paddle the raft across the lagoon and back with average abt 5 pple on the raft that u built. It was really fun cause we kept paddling but the raft keeps shaking so badly(unstable).We were on the verge of falling into the lagoon and we were all damn scared cause the lagoon has got big fishes in it that look like sharks from far ----HAHAHAHA, super funny! OH and next was jetty jump!! it felt like commiting suicide seriously. We had to climb up to this platform( about 1 storey high from the surface of the sea) and jump from there. The first step is always the hardest and it took longer than expected to plunge into the sea...after that jump, i really think that people who commits suicide must be really brave to make that step out into uncertainty. After the jump, we washed up, changed and had lunch. Lunch was delicious i remembered( i seem to enjoy the food..though the guys in our class seem to have very different opinion..) We set out for the team challenge pyramid after that. The idea is that you have to complete different obstacles before reaching the top of the pyramid where the reward comes in- the flying fox. All these obstacles are done above the ground (height obstacles) and most of the time..you are just treading on a rope with your harness...my group members were really gentlemanly and i must special mention them for their encouragements and support to console a pathetic girl who was on the brink of mental breakdown(scared of heights lar)..Exhausted, we washed up again and prepared for dinner. It was campfire night so every group had to put up a performance. Our group last minute chickened out of a skit for fear of poor response from the crowd and decided to play safe with a song entitled peng you. We self-amused ourselves by repeating the song many times waiting for the camp ic to stop us to proceed with the programme..okay..it was entertaining and amusing..see what u all missed out!After the camp fire, we had supper and debrief. As it was raining in the morning, our tents were flooded and we slept in the kebayanas. Basically, wenjian and clique very much would like to crash MR quek's room again but mr quek cleverly refused to disclose his room number so we(one big group of random people) ended up talking late into the night while some were waiting to crash the conference room after the instructors have gone to bed...they climbed in through the windows of the conference room cause the doors are locked..see how sneaky these people are..

FAC CAMP day 1

Hey guys here to update about the fac camp.

Contrary to popular belief, i thought e fac camp was damn nice haha.

First day: It didnt start well at first...we arrive in school to find that only around 30 people were going fac outing for the 8.40am session. Quite disappointing but not unexpected. Then we board ONE bus to marina country club. On the boat to pulau ubin i was having premonitions that this camp would bore me to death especially when there's only ONE girl in our class going (guo tong)...(how shld i classify genesis..)....Ok then we arrive at pulau ubin and the 30 ppl are split into half. Our class + shawn seitoh, yan long, winston & tiap yang in one group. Instant turn off.

Our first task was called the "leap of faith". We are suppose to climb up a pole, stand on the pole and leap up to reach for a bar hanging 1 metre away from us. (Of course there is harness). Everyone tried though some failed (genesis succeeded surprisingly). It was a good start cos we amuse ourselves staring at others combatting fears, shaking madly on the pole top and cheering them on and seeing them succeed. The feeling was quite good. Humans r wierd.
Next we set on for a team challenge game. Very hard to describe here. Anyway the idea is to get people from one end to another with two planks and two boxes. (the two planks were not long enough to reach from one side to the other) and nothing is suppose to touch the centre area. Basically first everyone stood on one end then yan long went forward with a box and did a "somersaut" kind of thing to reach the other end. Next we sent genesis in the same manner. Then we struggled to get more on the other side but failed cos the plank keep touching the centre. Then it was LUNCH!
Lunch sucks, the food was plain and the rice dry like hell. But i still ate two bowl...tmd hungry.
I forgot what happened next cos i kept thinking about how to survive with such lousy food...someone help me fill in here.
Then it was night time and the funny thing begins. Cos the tents were hot like hell and im suppose to share tents with jun qi, kenneth, hong yi. I had a strange feeling the tent's gonna collapse if we go in there together. So me kenneth hong yi and kin shun were walking around cos the toilet was full with people to shower and then...we saw MR QUEK in his CHALET!! haha we begged him to let us use his toilet. He agreed. I think he regretted for life. After our bath, we went for indoor activity then when its time to sleep, we went into his room in excuse for brushing our teeth. Haha after that we played dai dee in his room, and we asked whether he wanted to play with us then he was like "you all so noob how i play, later i play sure no need sleep alr cos keep winning mah". Then at last he played. Out of 3 games, he lost 2. As his wife left the island there was one bed was vacant...hehe...so later when he went out to check on other people, we basically gave the place a face lift. We shifted away the table and connect the two beds together and we took down the mattress haha the expression on Mr Quek's face when he walk into the room: priceless.
So we slept the whole night in an aircon chalet :)

O man im writing so long alr. Second day was even more action packed but i gtg nw shall elaborate when im free again.

im burnt

kayaking is fun, but quite tiring. after a while, u realise that Singapore is very small. juz look out to the big big ocean, (beyong ubin and tekong), and u realise that the world is just so big. maybe we have always been around these tall buildings in Singapore, that we do not even care about what is beyond.

its almost the same feeling i get after going to mongolia. its like, after seeing that the world is so huge, u are compressed back into singapore, back to the mundane tasks that we do everyday.

sometimes, a sport eg. kayaking is not only about mastering the sport, its also about socialising with other people. on the cab ride home with one of the trainer (his name is ryan, single, a pilot with sia), he told me that the sea sports club is just like a giant family to him. well i can probably imagine. after flying all over the world, it is always good to have something to hold on to, friends that can support u. when i asked him how many times he kayak in a week, although he didnt really give an answer, he told me that he went down to the sea sports club quite often. sometimes, he just sit around, waiting for the other trainers to finish and have dinner together.

i was just thinking, when i grow up, and start to work, who are the people that will be around me, giving me the support i need in every sense of the word?

haih, anyway. 18 mins more. today's lectures were damn sien. ~~some teachers just suck~~

- track shoes and socks, you have to wear covered shoes for teambuilding activities
- sports sandals

- sunglasses

Q: What are we doing at the Ubin Adventure Centre?
A: Team building activities eg. ropes course, problem solving games

Q: Where are we sleeping and are there toilets?
A: You will be sleeping in tents and there are toilets and bathrooms

A: Medication, if you are on any. Make sure you have spare ones.

aww..term has just ended for us and we are now left on our own for the next month or so..
i will miss our class, the girls and gays in our class, our beloved class bench, my chicken rice stall, morning assemblies and so much more. I am sure all of you will miss me too! or so i hope :) It has been a great term together! I am sure we had lotsa fun together..okay if you didnt..i had my fair share of fun :) Its gonna be sabbaticals next week and so many of us are not gonna be together attending the same enrichment courses. class outing will be on friday, which is TOMORROW instead. I apologise for the last minute notice but this cant be helped :( According to reliable sources, the weather tomorrow will be better for beach outings. Though there will be isolated showers, the sky will be clear by noon! I am really really sorry for the change of plans. But everything will be the same as on saturday.. the activities and stuff... the fun and energy level!!!

hello classmates!
I'm back with details on class outing. After many feedbacks from the class, the final decision is to have the class outing this saturday at Sentosa. We'll meet at 9am Habour Front Control Station. Then we will head down to the beach :) for a picnic. It is potluck so people do discuss amongst yourselves what to bring and tell me about it as soon as possible so that i will make sure that there is a variety of sufficient food to go around. Most importantly, do reconfirm with me whether you are able to make it on that day. Before i forget, do also volunteer to bring mats, radios, beach balls, cards and tell me who is bringing them because they are tremendously important for a successful beach outing! Pass the word around about this class outing in case there are people who do not bother to read my message on the class blog which i strongly believe that there will be.. Happy mugging in the holidays..And i will see you guys really really soon this Saturday!!
Ok..now wenjian just told me that the weather forecast predicted a shower with thunderstorm in the afternoon..so we are thinking maybe after the picnic we will watch vcds at someone's hse maybe shawn??(suet, we can probably try to get our hands on brokeback mountain yea..i bet you are screaming for joy now) or just head for town to slack though i really advise against it cause it is saturday and town will be flooded with heads.. as you all know we are going to organize a class outing this march holidays. It will be a great way for us to revisit the 68 class spirit, to catch up with one another (i know its a short holiday)and to get to know our new classmates better ! so, the suggestion now is for the class outing to be a bbq at east coast park on friday night. Otherwise, we can proceed with our original idea to have it on saturday at Sentosa. We can probably do so beach activities there. Hi 68! I'm sorry I didn't get to say goodbye to all of you properly.

On Wednesday I was expecting a change in subject combination. Obviously I had my hopes up because the KI teacher had already promised me a place in his class. However, the Timetabling Committee ~~decided to be slackers and~~ gave me my 2nd choice combination. Needless to say I was VERY AGITATED and ended up having it out with them for half an hour before finally getting KI again.

What a traumatic experience.

But now that it's over, I'd like to thank everyone in 68, including Mrs Tan (I'm sad I will no longer be in your Econs tutorial class), for making my first three months in HC so memorable. m(_ _)m I might not be seeing you guys that often now that my bench is in the right wing, but we're all still in Athena and still attend S6 lectures. Hope we can still wave to each other and talk in the hallways. XD

Mmm. I guess everione have something to be busy with. I now have found something to do, instead of slacking whole dae at home. After a few days with no one (ok, few people) posting on the class blog, i tink we need to decide on wad our class blog is supposed to be like- a place for discussion or just a place to post comments on observations or comments on recent class/school events.

Maybe it is more practical to just use this massage board as a tool for announcement/comments on stuff, which everione then checks up whenever they feel like it. At current rate of posting, i tink i would have to take my previous posting back abt the lack of space.

People, dun be lazy to post, add blogger.com into ur favourites/bookmark.

Currently i only see the few people posting: kinshun,junqi , wenjian, me, Tsung Chieh, sara, suet, a few others here and there, some onli on the tagboard because most are just too lazy to sign in. Is there ani easy method of signing in???

A day after the Tuan Bai at Tampines, well most did turn up, but quite alot didnt manage to! Well you guys sure missed out alot of fun too! We must also thx Kenneth and Hengjie too!

Hmm, most of the events convered by El, so i wont touch on them. 'Picture this' is fun too. Its a combination of Pictionary and Act it out, the whoel entire game ended up getting pissed with weirdo phrases. Other games included Bridge, Hook, Couple and Lao Ying Zua Xiao Ji! Oh ya, we're intending to make hook the official class game too =).

I wont say we really gamble, its just a 1st hand experience for all of us eh, just hope all of us wun get too hooked on it. CNY holidays and celebrations over, time to get back to work too, esp Econs ILP too. Hows the Written report so far? Cheer and help one another out if possible eh, some r really facing difficulties doing eh.

Aniway, today tuanbai quite fun, went kenneth and hengjie's house. Gambled a bit in In Between.. wah ... some people lost some money.. i converted $2.50 worth of coins into a $2 note.. =__=|

Quite fun, we should organise more of such events, spend more time with fun.. with stress lvl climbing up day by day, i hope none of us would collapse under the pressure :'(...

Ok juz hope the whole class would be reading this. The Council has organised tons of things which i couldn't tell you all properly so i'll do it here.

1) To make Total Defence day more "fun" they are organising this cat walk thing. Each class has to sent two representatives: 1 guy 1 girl. The guy will wear sch uniform and accompany and introduce the girl who will be doing the cat walk, wearing a costume (Military/NCC/NPCC/Handmade costume) in conjunction with the theme of Total Defence. We've to have ideas by next week, wednesday 8/02 and there will be a fac judging the following week, 16/02, thursday.
I'll put Hong Yi in charge of this since he's from NCC. I need female volunteers. Any suggestions?

2)Next, theres a cheering competition also on Total Defence Day. We have to create a cheer related to Total Defence and 1 class will represent each fac. I need the cheer done by next wednesday, 8/02. Anyone can help come up with a cheer? Just post the cheer here so we could work on it together.

3)Just a reminder to bring your "InterBank Giro(IBG) Application Form" on Monday 6/02. I'll be collecting :)

Just returned frm school, onli me and Zhen Ni turned up for the drama fest thingy, and are backstage grp. Most of our class should be in the costume/av department (except hong yi, i tink u noe the reason rite..)

Gd job for whoever that did the picture thing- one thing though, how come several people arent in the pictures: shawn, sara, hai han, mingjun, rachel. Then there are those who are in the picture but can hardly be seen- huanqiao, marvin, samuel... should allocate more obvious places for them lol.

:-D.. still need time to get use to class blog.. ideas anione on wad to write here besides crap which i can deliver anitime?

Sorry Kin Shun I deleted your post because the font was smaller than the rest. I'm just a stickler for formatting and am weird like that. We don't need to change the template because we've got permission from my friend already... I think I can ask her about the IE/Firefox problem too.

With regard to debates I am now announcing that Sara is not going to be speaking for the next round. Sara thinks it was a good experience and all, but she would like to let other people have a chance. She would very much like to take over the Timekeeper job (Weiyi my friend thinks you look like some Jpop guy, not sure if this is a compliment), because she loves springy bells. She also does not mind helping to do research. However, she does want to see other members of the class actually bothering about this, even though debates are a stupid thing to be bothered about since there are so many funner things to be involved in. (the capteh competition is a good example)

In other news, Huang Qiao wants to speak! YAY! I think this is such a breakthrough - someone actually WANTS TO SPEAK. *dances* Everyone give her some encouragement. :D :D :D

MUST I REALLY GO FOR CSP ARGH...

Apparently, some classes have this CSP ponning-cycle. In which every lecture, some people get to skip while the attendance taker covers for them. Wonder if we could do that too. ^___^;;

HII WE FINALLY HAVE A BLOG!! i think we're setting this up for the sake of some competition thing but aiya i think it'll help to bond. hopefully it wont die after a few weeks.

i don't like the font. it's my most hated font after comic sans hahaha -_- ok i'm so bad first thing then criticise already.

the font is quite big to me leh.

i like the tagboard though. the scrolling thing is cool. and the template colour is nice.

anyway hengjie i thought the debates were really good. SERIOUS GOOD. where got flop! in fact i think we MIGHT get into the next round. then again, that only means more research and all that work to be done. results doesn't matter anyway. anyhow great job guys.

eh anyway you all must type in short paragraphs k because people hate reading big chunks of words.

kk, my first official entry:
Our class today had a class debate with another class and erm.. haha, we didn't perform really well. The speakers, me and genesis thinks that we flopped and really sorry that it resulted in our most probably lost. Sara tried her best really, you can see lah, cheers to sara~! Anyway, it's not that bad lah, haha, cause the whole class went and everyone tried their best to contribute! haha.. so the results don't matter, cause we always got our spirit to fall back on! haha...

erm.. i just realise this entry is lame. haha.. junqi, you can delete if you want lah.. this is one of the reasons why i can't really mantain a blog. haha...

Nice work. Eh the tagboard actually can be used for leaving messages... quite handy in case certain people cannot log into SMB. We could leave message or someone be in charge of a "HW to be handled up by tmr" thing.

I don't know why we are doing this blog. Is it for a competition, or is it just a class bonding thingy?

Anyway, it's more or less done unless you guys want to change the picture. In which case you guys will come up with the replacement picture. :P And if anyone sees the need for a tagboard, please sign up for one and stick it in the relevant place. There are instructions in the html itself to tell you where to stick things.
